How confidence is scored

The match-confidence number on every report measures one thing: how many independent public sources are tied to the profile you picked by a shared identifier. It is not a guess from similar names, and it never goes up because more pages were found.

The rule: shared identifiers only

A source joins a report only when something concrete ties it to the profile you selected: its own Wikidata item, a Wikipedia sitelink, the same GitHub or X username listed by both sides, or the same personal website. A page about someone with the same name is listed separately as “same name — not added” and does not touch the score.

The numbers

What we foundEffect on the score
The profile you selected (one source, nothing confirming it yet)Starts at 40%
Each independent source tied to it by a shared identifier+18 points, counted up to 3 sources
Each profile you supplied yourself (for example an email or handle you typed)+4 points, up to 2 (you vouch for it; we did not verify it)
More pages from the same account (for example a repository list)No change
Same-name results, same-username profiles on other sites, news and court records found by nameNo change: listed as “not added”

The score is capped at 95%. No public-source tool can be certain, so a human should always confirm identity before relying on a report. Levels: Low below 55%, Medium 55–74%, High 75% and above.

Examples

  • 40% · Low. You picked a GitHub account and nothing else points to it. The report shows that account only.
  • 76% · High. You picked a Wikipedia article; its Wikidata item lists the person’s X username, and that X account links back to the same website. That is two independent confirmations.
  • 48% · Low. You picked a GitHub account and also typed the person’s email; Gravatar and GitHub show that email. They are labeled “supplied by you (not verified)”.

What the extra checks do (and don’t do)

Reports also run username checks across public sites, Gravatar and GitHub email lookups, a news and adverse-media search, and CourtListener court records. Matches by email you entered are added as “supplied by you”. Everything matched only by name or username is shown with its source link under More public checks — not added to this report, so you can review it without it inflating the score.

Why this matters

People-search sites often merge records that share a name, which is how the wrong person ends up in a report. We would rather show you less, with every item linked to its original, than show you more that may belong to someone else.
